Sports Swap in September

Get your seasonal gear organized and updated!

It’s time to sort through anything hanging on hooks as well as what’s in hiding. Next season’s extra layers, boards, boots – too big, too small, or just right, gets time to shine. The FVCS Ski & Sports Swap is Sept. 29 at the Alyeska Daylodge. From 12-4 p.m., replace extra ski and boarding equipment by putting it back in the local market. Get an edge on the season and all the other swaps, right here in Girdwood. By October, knowledge of what your family needs for the months ahead will be advantageous.

This event is a fundraiser for FVCS and an annual community gathering. Control sheets and tags are currently available at our office and at the Girdwood Post Office. If you’re sold on selling and buying gear, or volunteering, know you can do it all! One hundred volunteers make this event successful each year. Please visit our website or call the office for more information. Get your savvy shopping accomplished fast while helping your community. We send a pumping heartfelt thank you to Alyeska Resort for supporting FVCS and hosting our annual Ski & Sports Swap. FVCS loves this community spirit.

Cross Country Running started Sept. 6 for grades 1-6 with 43 registrants. Adults and kids can join the fun Mon. and Thurs. through Sept. 27. Head coach and coordinator Melanee Stiassny needs adult volunteers to run with youth. This writer recognizes running with kids encourages spontaneous smiling and is way more fun than serious. Come out and run.

There is a seat at the table for you. FVCS Community Board meeting and potluck is Fri. Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. in the Community Room. Attend our annual fall meeting to learn about our board opportunities and its members. FVCS is looking for board members to strengthen our mission of providing community education for residents of Girdwood, Bird, Indian and Portage.
