Request for Public Comment

To the Editor,

The City of Whittier is pleased to announce the opening of the public comment period on the new City of Whittier 2020 Comprehensive Plan Draft. Beginning this Friday, November 15, 2019, The City of Whittier would like to invite all Whittier residents and business owners to offer comment on the draft version of this important community plan.

The new comprehensive plan is the result of strong community input and guidance throughout the 2019 planning effort. More than 60 community members have actively engaged in community meetings, working groups, stakeholder interviews, and action plan reviews – assessing, deliberating, and designing contents of the 2020 Comprehensive Plan. Contributors represent key community stakeholders including the City of Whittier, City Council, City Commissions, local businesses, residents, and members of the Whittier community.

The hard work contributed by these committed community members has finally come together to form a meaningful comprehensive plan, which reflects the needs not only of the City, but of the community as a whole. However, our work is not done yet. To ensure that this plan represents Whittier to the fullest, further community engagement through the public comment period is needed.

A critical community document, the 2020 Comprehensive Plan provides the City of Whittier direction and guidance for the community’s future development and growth over the next five years. Make your voice heard across your community and shape the future you want to see in Whittier.

The 2020 Comprehensive Plan Draft is available for download at www.whittieralaska.gov or in hardcopy at the City of Whittier offices in the Public Safety Building.

Public comment should be submitted electronically by emailing info@whittieralaska.gov. or in hardcopy via drop boxes at the BTI office and City office.

If you are a resident or business owner in Whittier, the City wants to hear from you. Please submit public comment either electronically or in hardcopy by December 15, 2019.

The public comment period will remain open from November 15 through December 15, 2019. Whittier’s 2020 Comprehensive Plan is expected to be finalized in January 2020.

Thank you for your participation,
City of Whittier
