Red and gold leaves are skipping from tree to trees as fall spreads across the Girdwood Valley. This fall, Alyeska Resort presents two signature events: Oktoberfest and Halloween.

Oktoberfest is a free, family-friendly event taking place this weekend in the Sitzmark Bar & Grill. The dates for Oktoberfest are 28-29.

Enjoy live music and t-shirts for purchase. Hand picked beer will be flowing and beautiful new steins are available for $7 with $7 refills. Feed the whole family with the authentic Bavarian spread created by Alyeska Resort’s dedicated culinary team, and don’t forget your pickle on a stick! The event starts at 4 p.m.

On Sept. 29, Girdwood 2020 and Alyeska Resort will be hosting the Lederhosen/Dirndl Dash at Oktoberfest, a family 5K Fun Run. Dress in your favorite Oktoberfest attire or be festive for fall. There will be Oktoberfest activities, an all entrant raffle with a variety of prizes and a commemorative Alyeska stein (21+ only) for all race finishers that you can take straight to Oktoberfest. All proceeds benefit Girdwood 2020. The race starts at noon.

Have you been planning your Halloween costume? We hope so because no one does Halloween quite like Alyeska Resort. Slip into your Halloween finest and come to the Sitzmark for a rockin’ good time with this year’s band The Young Dubliners. This band is very popular, and their shows always sell out in advance, so purchase your tickets soon. The Halloween celebration will be for two nights on Oct. 26-27.

Want to stay Halloween night at the Hotel Alyeska? We have packages created specifically for all the ghosts and goblins. The package includes a one-night stay and tickets to the show on either Fri. or Sat. night. If you’ve put a lot of time and attention into your costume, make sure you come to the Sitzmark at 9 p.m. for the Costume Contest. Doors open at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $20. For advance tickets, call (907) 754-2275. This is a 21 and over event, so make sure you bring your ID.

After all this celebration talk, we must remind you of one that is coming to an end. Everyone’s favorite Asian Bistro will be closing its doors for the season on Oct. 7. Come fill up on your favorites like Miso Soup, Vegetable Tempura, Black Pepper King Crab Knuckles, creative cocktails and much more. Reserve the Tea Room or sit at the bar and enjoy watching the skilled chefs prepare your meal. Sakura Asian Bistro is always missed and its reopening eagerly awaited. Get your fill before it’s too late.

Bring your merriment to Oktoberfest, your scariness to Halloween and your taste buds to Sakura Asian Bistro. These celebrations, like fall, are brilliant and bright, but then like candlelight, they are gone. Celebrate fall to the fullest with Alyeska Resort.
