Alyeska at a Glance
By Bayne Salmon
Mornings around here are getting chilly. The nights stretch longer and longer as we approach Autumn’s embrace. Some of us are smitten with this season, and it’s my favorite time of year-albeit a fleeting one. While some of you are dreaming of winter and praying for its early arrival, we’ve still got summer sports on our mind at Alyeska.
Each year we celebrate our ridership and the fantastic community of shredders with a culmination of summer at the Alyeska Bike Fest. The resort has been hosting this fun-filled event for seven years running now, and it only grows with each passing season. From a tractor pull, pitting riders against one another to haul heavy weights, to a pond crossing-daring competitors to attempt a full crossing of the hotel’s pond, or risk the brisk swim, to a full day of the vertical challenge, there’s no shortage of fun and excitement.
The crowd-pleaser, the Pond Crossing, will be held on Sat., Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. The final Alyeska DH Cup race will also occur on Saturday at 4 p.m. If you’d prefer to climb your way to the top, we’ll even be holding another Alyeska Enduro on Sunday just before the lifts start spinning. Please join us in celebrating a summer’s worth of mountain biking, with a weekend full of fun events and the camaraderie of fellow bikers from Sept. 6-8.
If you missed the chance to celebrate Alyeska’s 25th anniversary with Girdwood Alliance at their Mountain Music Festival, don’t fret because you’ve got another chance to party with us at the top of the tram on Aug. 31. We’ll be hosting a celebration with bubbles, beer, games, gear and ski giveaways, birthday cake and more. Join us in ringing in our quarter-century with delicious libations from Veuve Clicquot. There’s going to be cornhole, giant Jenga, and good times all around so make sure to bring your friends and family. This event is sure to be fun for everyone.
