Now that Turnagain Times has passed into the annals of history, it’s appropriate to look back at its 20-year past after its final issue was published Nov. 3, 2017.

The following excerpt is from the third issue of the Turnagain Times, published July 2, 1998 on page 1 and written by Ken Osuna.

New Fire Chief in Girdwood
Girdwood’s new fire chief started on the job this week, but Bill Chadwick isn’t new to the Girdwood Volunteer Fire Department. He has been the Assistant Chief and one of founders of Girdwood’s Emergency Medical Service (E.M.S.) program. The Girdwood Board of Supervisors appointed Chadwick as an interim chief after Fire Chief Mike Tumey submitted his resignation effective at the end of June.

Chadwick praised Tumey and the 40 volunteers who staff the Girdwood department. “We’ve got a super department right now,” he said. We’ve got a real good mix of people.”
