At last night’s Girdwood Board of Supervisor’s meeting, Alyeska Resort representatives presented their opinion that the Alaska State Trooper’s policing proposal for Girdwood should be considered alongside Whittier’s proposal. AST reviewed its proposal and took questions. Whittier’s Chief Dave Schofield also spoke and fielded questions.

After GBOS and the public concluded a lengthy round of questions and comments, none of the five supervisors made a motion to consider the AST proposal. Negotiations over a Girdwood policing contract are about 70 percent concluded, with both sides optimistic about moving forward.

In other news, four appointments to the Public Safety Advisory Committee were announced. The committee will serve as a go between for Girdwood community and the Whittier Police Department if a contract is agreed upon. In the event of a tie, the GBOS Public Safety Supervisor will vote. Michelle Weston will chair the committee with fellow appointees Mike Edgington, Mandy Hawes and Mike Opalka.

In-depth coverage will be in next week’s Glacier City Gazette.
