Glacier Valley Gazetta: A Glimpse into the Past

Glacier Valley Gazetta: A Glimpse into the Past

The pages of the Glacier Valley Gazetta are a fascinating look into Girdwood 50 years ago. Polka Dan Zantak has generously given the Gazette a copy of the Gazetta’s Vol. 1, Iss. 2 from June 1967.

The issue’s lead article was about Alaska’s centennial. The second, front-page article was important changes at the Alyeska Ski Corporation at Girdwood. Norman Armour Jr. succeeded Francois de Gunzburg as President while Chris Von Imhof was named General Manager and Corporate Vice-President.

The text comes from The Editor’s Page on the left hand side of page 2. Editor Hugh Cruikshank Jr. humorously rakes himself over the coals for numerous errors in the Gazetta’s first issue and promises to do better in subsequent issues.
