Dear Girdwoodians
Dear Girdwoodians,
Since 2011, the seventh and eighth grade students from Girdwood School have had the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. for a week in the spring. These biennial trips, as you can imagine, are a high point of the students’ Girdwood School career.
The next tour to Washington, D.C., which will include a quick trip to New York City, is scheduled for May of 2017.
The first fundraiser for this May 2017 trip was the Donut/Coffee/Cookies Sale held on Election Day in the foyer of the Community Center. We want to thank the Girdwood voters for their generosity; nearly $1,500 was raised. We also want to thank the businesses who donated to the fundraiser: Java Haus, The Grind, Carr’s Huffman, Crow Creek Mercantile, and the Girdwood Subway.
Several voters asked if “flocking” will be returning. As this is a summer-before-a-D.C. trip tradition, flamingo flocking will reappear once school is out. Watch for the pat (that’s what a flock of flamingos is called) to come to a yard near you!
Thank you again, Girdwood. We greatly appreciate your support.
Sincerely,
The May 2017 D.C./N.Y. Students
