Alyeska at a Glance
By Stephanie Drescher
The holidays are upon us. Parties and events have been planned, invitations have been sent out and social calendars are being shuffled and filled. The traditional Alyeska Thanksgiving Buffet is already tomorrow. This event is one of Alyeska Resort’s deserving a prominent place on any festive holiday list.
The snowmaking machines have been humming on the mountainside for over two weeks now. The snow is quickly spreading around the base and Girdwood has woken up to several dustings of snow with hopes for more soon. Speaking of anticipation, Hope Social Club will be playing at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill in a few weeks on Dec. 15 and 16.
Dec. 18 will start Military Monday, where active and retired military can pick up a free lift ticket with their identification, as well as enjoy discounted rentals, promotional room rates and restaurant specials.
Dec. 21 is going to be a very busy day at the resort. Santa visits Alyeska and Santa Skis Free are sharing the same day, sliding Christmas in swiftly. The next day, the sweet and sultry notes of the fiddle and banjo will fill the Sitzmark Bar & Grill as Big Chimney Barn Dance takes the stage at the 7th annual Bluegrass Ball.
New Year’s Eve is always a magical time. As 2017 dissolves into 2018, Alyeska will embrace the transition with a band whose music is “best described as a seamless web of Phish and Dead to split open and melt your face!” The DeadPhish Orchestra will be playing for 3 nights Dec. 29, 30 & 31 at the Sitzmark.
Alyeska Resort has plenty of events to fill these last two pages of the calendar. It’s time to do a little more social shuffling in order to make room for some fun and a lot more memories.
