Alyeska at a Glance
By Stephanie Drescher
September has graced the Girdwood valley with a spectacular fall. One activity Alyeska Resort loves to promote is the brilliant fall hiking in the Girdwood area. There are numerous hiking trails that are wonderful in fall. There is the ease of the popular Winner Creek Extension Trail, the beautiful views of the multi-use Nordic Loop Trail, the Upper Iditarod Trail that follows the woods along Crow Creek, where you can find some of the best fall foliage and tasty mushrooms. You can also connect to the Winner Creek Loop from this trail. Take advantage of the fall hiking season as the season settles in and everyone nestles awaiting winter’s awes.
Fall’s best event is Halloween. No one celebrates this holiday like Girdwood and Alyeska Resort. This year, The Sitzmark is happy to have the Halloween headliners be the very popular Young Dubliners. They will be playing at the Sitzmark Oct. 26-27. This band is an Alaskan favorite, and in the past, this band has consistently sold out. If you cannot miss this show, get your tickets sooner than later. The show starts at 10 p.m. and is 21 and over.
The best part about Halloween is the costumes, and Alyeska Resort wants to showcase all the thought and talent that goes into the attire for this spooky night. Before Young Dubliners rock the house, there will be an epic costume contest starting at 9 p.m. If you think you have a winning ensemble, come on down when the doors open at 8 p.m. and scare the competition away.
Prizes are yet to be announced, but they’re going to be good. If you are looking to stay the night on either the Oct. 26-27, The Hotel Alyeska has a package lined up for you. The package includes a one-night stay and tickets to the show Oct. 26 or 27.
As our calendars fill up with holiday cheer, do not forget to jot down on your calendar ‘Last Day of Season Pass Sale’ on Oct. 31. If you plan to getting a season pass to the resort, it would be most advantageous for your wallet to get your pass on or prior to this date.
After all that candy, our thoughts turn towards more fulfilling and nutritious items like stuffing, potatoes and turkey. If you want to give mom and grandma a break this year, think about securing a reservation for The Hotel Alyeska’s Thanksgiving Buffet on Nov. 22 in the Pond Café & Kahiltna Court from 1-5 p.m.
Some sunny days, bright fall colors and tempered weather are still left in this fall season. Get out, visit Alyeska Resort and enjoy it while you can.
