In the summer, we all interact with travelers who are astonished by Girdwood Valley. The wistful look of admiration in their eyes reminds us how lucky we are to live here, near this unique resort. Every week, the resort has exciting events to share.

Grab your mountain bike and hit the dirt this last July weekend and celebrate Ted Steven’s Day. Come ride Ted’s Express lift and churn out some hype for your favorite bike park. Are you a newbie? Try the Bear Cub Quad Program, which is perfect for new enthusiasts. The $99 BCQ program includes a downhill bike rental for BCQ, BCQ lift ticket, and a two-hour intro group lesson available at 12:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. every Friday-Sunday. Effective dates are July 27-August 26. This program is for new riders only.

In regards to the bike park, we wanted to do a quick ‘corrections corner.’ In the last article, it stated that a 2018 bike park pass is included with your 2018/19 Season Pass. That’s incorrect. A 2018 bike park pass is available as an add-on; the purchase of a Season Pass allocates a $50 discount towards the bike park pass making it $200 instead of $250.

Speaking of Season Passes, the summer sale ends Aug. 31. An exciting benefit to this purchase is the chance to win a piece of Alyeska Resort history. All adults who have purchased before Aug. 31 will be entered to win a last remaining chair from the iconic Chair 1 lift. Artist/Graphic Designer Dawn Gerety is commissioned to give the chair a custom paint job. The winner can request a color-scheme and give artistic direction.

Summer weekends mean free music at the Sitzmark Bar & Grill. On July 28 at 10 p.m., The Quick & Easy Boys, with special guest Chase Christie, will be on the stage. The Quick & Easy boys are a Portland-based power trio who have toured throughout the Lower 48 for a decade. Their unique sound has been described as Jimi Hendrix meets The Police. Special guest Chase Christie is an Alaskan-based singer with a Bay Area-based country band The Whisky Richards, who will be joining them for a high-energy performance.

Remember, we live in a special place. Take advantage of it this week.
