There isn’t a lot we can say around Alyeska these days except thank you to Mother Nature for this wonderful last burst of glorious whiteness to finish off the 2017/18 season.

How lucky we are to have such great mountains in our own backyard and the opportunity to surf the earth and enjoy our favorite snow sports with such ease. The 2017/18 skiing season will be coming to a close on April 22. All skiers and riders should rush to get their fill before the lifts halt at 6 p.m. on that final Sunday.

To soften the sadness of the ski season ending, Alyeska continues another tradition – celebrating spring. The 41st Annual Spring Carnival and Slush Cup will be flying in full color and soaring overhead the weekend of April 13-15.

How excited are we for this tradition? Join us to slush through the fun and enjoy events such as the: Idiot Swim Across, Speedway Cycles Mountain Bike Race, Dummy Downhill and XTRATUF Tug-of-War. Many of the Spring Carnival events require registration, so make sure you visit the webpage to be filled in on all the details.

XTRATUF will be on site selling boots at a special rate, and we know you have been dying to get a new pair. This event will be the perfect opportunity to keep your feet dry for the whole weekend.

The talented and fun California Soul band, the Mother Hips, just finished at the Sitzmark, and we only have two more bands left. We couldn’t quite get enough of the Mother Hips, so their lead singer is hanging around to guest star with Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons. Jerry Joseph and the Jackmormons will be finishing off each day of Slush Cup with a bang.

For more than 30 years, Jerry Joseph has been strapping on a guitar and chasing down truth, understanding and soul with a tenacity and resonating skill that will find many kindred spirits in Girdwood. There is nothing quite like live music, so get your tickets in advance. As always, ladies are free on Thursday night.

With the music is winding down at the Sitz, other engines are warming up and revving to take their place. If we are committed to anything here at Alyeska, it is a constant buzz of activities. Motor Mushers will be taking place at Alyeska Resort April 27-28. Motor Mushers is dedicated to all things snow machine and to entering them into every kind of race possible, including hill climbs, drag races and junior events. If you love snow machines, then you do not want to miss this weekend. Check Alyeska Resort online calendar for more details.

We’re saying goodbye to ski season, but we are definitely not saying adieu to community events, special occasions, smiles and of course…fun.
