Alyeska at a Glance
By Stephanie Drescher
This time of year is a favorite. Skies are blue, the sun is letting its presence be known and the super sunny slopes are coveted. Though the seasons are changing, there still is a lot of great music to look forward to on the Sitz stage.
Lucero will be performing March 29-31. As a band, Lucero is the bridge between the shadows and the spotlight. Their heart lies in change and charging into new territory. This band is unafraid to mix pop with anti-pop and are described as “whiskey-soaked bohemians.” During their last appearance, several of their shows sold out in advance. Attendees are encouraged to get tickets in advance.
Arrive early Thursday night and support our local Ducks Unlimited chapter at the Ducks Unlimited Night at the Sitz. This event starts at 6 p.m. and is a fundraiser for youth education in Girdwood, and also for the support of waterfowl and wetlands conservation. It’s free to attend, and there will be raffles and a delicious special of smoked duck tacos.
After the dust settles around Lucero, the California soul of the San Francisco based rock band, Mother Hips will emerge. They will be playing the Sitzmark Bar & Grill April 5-7. Tickets are only $10 but free for the ladies on Thursday night. Also, on Thursday, starting at 6 p.m. and running until just before the show, is the inaugural Naked Lady Event at the Sitz.
Alyeska is excited to host something new and partner with Veuve Clicquot and the Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis. This interactive community event is a free swap that will be full of champagne, bubbles, clothes, shoes and jewelry. Women are encouraged to bring their gently used clothes with life still in them to the Sitz until April 4. All items will be organized ahead of time for easier shopping and swapping the next day.
Veuve Clicquot will be joining the party with a beautiful jacket and other prizes to giveaway including K2 Skis. Flutes of Veuve Clicquot will be available for purchase. This is a kid-friendly event, so well-behaved children are welcomed at the Sitz. Several changing stations and mirrors will also be scattered throughout the Sitz for the guest’s convenience.
All remaining items from the Naked Lady Party will be donated to AWAIC, the largest domestic violence safe shelter in Alaska. They provide emergency support services to women, men and their children. Join this community building event and come support a good cause, and don’t forget to stay for the after party with Mother Hips.
Can you believe that it is almost time for Easter? A few days before Mother Hips and the Naked Lady Party, Alyeska will be hosting several Easter events. On April 1 at 7:30 – 8:30 a.m. at the Upper Tram Terminal there will be an Easter Sunrise Service. Complimentary Tram uploads between 6:30-7:30 a.m.
Food is the center of most every holiday and Easter is no exception. Our popular and yummy Easter Brunch featuring salads and starters, a hot buffet, action and carving stations and an assortment of pastries and sweets. Seatings are at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Reservations are strongly recommended.
Alyeska hosts not one, but two epic Easter Egg Hunts! Following the Sunrise Service, starting at 9:45 a.m., Alyeska is calling all kids to join the hunt for eggs and prizes around the Tram Terminal and the Pond Courtyard.
Also, throughout the day, an interactive, scavenger hunt-style egg hunt will be taking place all over the mountain, for all ages. Follow the clues to find the eggs. The first clue will be given out over the phone on the early morning SKI-SNOW (754-7669) Hotline.
Once the lifts are open to the public, we will then give out a clue on EITHER the SKI-SNOW Hotline or the online Snow Report every hour after that (10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and so on), so be sure to check both, as it will only be on one or the other, not both. The first person to solve the riddle and find the prize keeps it. Happy hunting and good luck to all!
