Alyeska at a Glance
By Stephanie Drescher
There is a quote that reads, “there is no such thing as bad weather, just soft people.” Alaskans are many things, but when choosing descriptive words, “soft” wouldn’t be at the top of the list.
Rain, snow or shine, there are always things to do in and around Alyeska Resort. Here are four upcoming events you and your hardy self could attend.
Truly a favorite and one of the most talented bands in the state is coming to the Sitzmark to put on two free shows. Super Saturated Sugar Strings are a high-energy, harmonious blend of piano, violin, cello, guitar and odd percussions. They create the sound of a sweet, funky, foot-stomping symphony. They will be at the Sitz March 29-30, and the show starts at 10 p.m.
Another concert to keep your eye on is the much anticipated Green Leaf Rustlers featuring Chris Robinson. They will be swirling through sage smoke and mists to the Sitzmark stage to produce their cosmic California country music, playing all the dusty country classics of your dreams. Get your tickets soon. They will be playing April 4-6. Tickets are $40, and the shows start at 10 p.m.
As the Sitzmark bubbles up and bursts with music, another kind of bubble will be rising to the rim on the Boretide Deck. On March 31 between 2:30-5:30 p.m, Alyeska Resort and Veuve Clicquot will be hosting the annual Veuve Clicquot In The Snow. Giveaways will be going on throughout the afternoon and prizes will be raffled every 30 minutes, including a pair of Veuve skis at 5:30 p.m. Life Size Veuve Jenga and Cornhole will be played on the deck. There is a room package available for this event as well. It includes a full bottle of Veuve in the room, two Tram tickets to get to the event, a voucher for two glasses of champagne with flutes to keep at the Boretide event. Please head to the Special Packages page on the Alyeska Resort website for more details.
The bubbles will also spill over into April at the Naked Lady Party. On April 4, between 5-8 p.m, a clothing, shoes and jewelry swap complete with plenty of bubbles will be held at the Sitz. This event was a smash last year, so it’s being presented again with the sponsorship of Veuve Clicquot. Just bring gently-used clothing, shoes and accessories you no longer want and someone else might just love to the Sitzmark by April 3rd.
The clothes will be organized, displayed and ready to rummage. Ladies, friends and neighbors are free to peruse the treasures while sipping champagne. The Sitzmark will be accepting clothes until April 3rd, and all remaining clothes will be donated to Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis Center. There will be a Veuve Clicquot ski giveaway at the event too. Clothing donations are not required to participate, the clothing swap is completely free, Veuce Clicquot flutes will be available for $18.
