Alyeska at a Glance
By Stephanie Drescher
Alyeska Resort has been enjoying many bluebird days and is currently sitting pretty in white with over 317 inches at the peak of the mountain. The weather, great turns on the mountain and constant activity at the resort is music to our ears, as are the many great bands in the Sitzmark lineup.
A Celtic party will be rocking at the Sitz Feb. 16-17 as the Young Dubliners, quite possibly Celtic rock’s hardest working band, take the stage. The Young Dubliners have played hundreds of shows across the U.S. and Europe, entertaining thousands of fans. They have also appeared twice on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. Join Alyeska for the return of the Young Dubliners and shut down your night (or early morning) with this local favorite.
Not to be out done, the following weekend will be steaming with the fist-pumping, talented band Flowmotion. With their talented arsenal of rock licks, this band is back for more of Alyeska and is sure not to disappoint. Flowmotion has multi-genre attacks hidden in its quiver. When their show is in full swing, the guitars converse pleasantly and aggressively, often escalating to arena rock levels and create the sort of soundscapes typically reserved for the likes of Pink Floyd. Shows will be Feb. 23-24 and tickets are available now.
Do you know what also goes together like rock and roll? Wine and paint. Back by popular demand, the Sitzmark will again be hosting a series of guided paint nights. Let the creativity and beverages flow at this fun, creative adult-art-making event. Paint Nite #1 will be Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. The price is $45, and these classes usually sell out. Go to the Sitzmark website calendar to gather a code that will save you 40% (which takes it down to $27) instantly at checkout and to get a sneak peak at the masterpiece you will be creating: Galaxy in the Pines.
Ringing in the fresh month of March will be an Alaska favorite, Leftover Salmon. Coming for a grand total of three shows on March 1-3. Sitzmark is thrilled to bring back one of the greatest jam bands to come through Alaska. Last year’s show quickly sold out on all nights; these shows will sell out again and remember ladies are free on Thursday.
Leftover Salmon brings 25 years of rootsy, string-based music that is impossible to deny or to get out of your head and heart. A true Alaska band, they bring their form of aggressive bluegrass and rock and roll to every stage they grace. Leftover Salmon have become a pillar of the jam band scene and unwitting architects of the Jamgrass Genre.
Whether you come to Alyeska to jam out, paint, sip, ski or board, the start of our new year has something for everyone. We hope to see you around the mountain. Buy all tickets in advance at thesitzmark.com.
