Alyeska at a Glance
By Stephanie Drescher
Alyeska Resort is excited to announce three great events at the Sitzmark and a deal we want to encourage you to take advantage of.
The Patrol Auction is such a fun event full of living-it-up, taking chances and lots of laughs. What makes it even better is that it is for a great cause. The 11th Annual Alyeska Ski Patrol Auction will take place on Sat., Jan. 12. Doors open at 7 p.m. for registration. Alyeska Resort is fortunate to have an Avalanche Canine Program to complement its Snow Safety & Ski Patrol teams.
Several (un)willing patrollers from Alyeska’s Ski Patrol will be featured, and each live auction winner will get an early morning ski with their patroller of choice. Join us for the catwalks, laughs and charitable contributions. This auction is a fundraiser for Alyeska Patrol Avalanche Canines. Donations of any kind are much appreciated! The auction is from 8-10 p.m., followed by live music with Kalo.
Two great acts are coming to the Sitzmark. On January 17-19, Clinton Fearon & the Boogie Brown Band, the big time Reggae band from Seattle, will be taking the stage. Fearon is a Jamaican Reggae legend, composer, songwriter, singer and player of instruments since his early teens, and a professional since age 19.
He was born in Jamaica and became the bassist, vocalist and lyricist for the mythic Gladiators, as well as a session musician for Coxsonne Dodd in Studio One and Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry’s at Black Ark, two of the main producers on the island at the time. He also composed everlasting bass lines for well-known artists like Yabby You, Jimmy Riley, Max Romeo and Junior Byles. Tickets are $10, this 21 and over show starts at 10 p.m.
On Feb. 1-2, Lukas Nelson will light up the stage at the Sitz. When Nelson plays, it’s exciting, visceral and real. Nelson is currently riding on the success of “A Star is Born” with Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper, recently nominated for a Best Picture by Golden Globe. Lukas wrote original music for the film and performed in it.
Tickets are going fast, and these shows will sell out. Tickets for the 21 and over event are $40, with a limit of 4 tickets per customer. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the concert starts at 10 p.m.
And last but not least, the deal! Alyeska Resort loves to celebrate Learn To Ski & Snowboard Month. Celebrated in January, it is a national initiative encouraging kids and adults to learn how to ski and/or snowboard, or improve their skills by taking lessons from a professional instructor.
Ski areas and resorts throughout the U.S. offer free and reasonably priced lesson programs during Jan. The resort offers the special package of 3 for $129. This package includes 3 beginner group ski or snowboard lessons, rental equipment and lower mountain lift tickets. The lessons are designed for those new to skiing and snowboarding. All three lessons must be used by the same individual and skiers must be age six or older; Snowboarders must be age eight or older. To learn more call Mountain Learning Center at (907) 754-2280.
