Monday, May 23 – Benjamin Franklin announces his invention, the ‘bifocal,’ 1785.
Tuesday, May 24 – Amidst swirling controversy, Nicolaus Copernicus shares his published proof claiming the sun to center the solar system, 1543.
Wednesday, May 25th – Olympic great, Jesse Owens sets a whopping six world records in less than an hour at Ann Arbor, MI, 1935.
Thursday, May 26 – Alaska Proud: Congress passes a bill creating the Washington-Alaska Cable System. Over the cable Alaska connected to the worldwide telegraphic system in the year 1900.
Friday, May 27 – Construction on Walt Disney World, FL begins, 1969.
Saturday, May 28 – Alaska Doubly Proud: U.S. Senate ratifies the 1867 treaty providing for purchase of Alaska from Russia. On this same date, ninety-one years later, the House of Representatives passed the Alaska statehood bill.
Sunday, May 29 – New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay of Nepal become the first men to summit the mighty Mt. Everest, 1953.
